Recording your activity

No matter how you move, it's easy to record your activity and count it toward your goal.

Five different ways to track

Tap Add Activity on the Record tab to see all of the ways to log an activity. The app remembers what you used last time to make it even easier on the next workout.

Outdoor โ€” our built-in GPS tracker

Great for anything outside where you'd like a map of where you went.

  • Tap Start (or Enable if you haven't given location access yet). You get a five-second countdown.
  • A voice calls out your progress as you go โ€” switch to the robot voice in Settings.
  • Tap Add pit stop photo to grab a picture partway through.
  • Tap Discard to scrap it, or Complete to save it.

Leave the app running in the background while you're out โ€” force-quitting it stops the recording.

Indoor โ€” a timer, no GPS

For treadmills, stationary bikes, ellipticals, classes, or anything indoors where GPS gets confused. Tap Start and the app counts your time. When you're done you enter your distance โ€” or let the distance estimator work it out for you.

Strava โ€” import what you already recorded

You can import your activities from Strava. The first time you import, the app will help you connect your accounts. On some Android phones you'll be asked twice where to open a link โ€” choose Strava first, then your browser (e.g. Chrome).

Once connected, pick an activity from your recent Strava activity history and bring it in. You can also bulk import multiple activities at once.

Turn on Auto import Strava activities in Settings and we'll remind you in the app when there's a new Strava activity to import.

Manual โ€” type it in yourself

Pick the activity type, add your distance and time, set the date, and save. If you're not sure of the distance, you can use our built-in estimator to approximate based on the time. The date picker lets you back-date within the window your season allows, so a forgotten walk isn't a lost walk.

Apple Health โ€” iPhone only

Brings in workouts from Apple Health. Choose one, tweak the details, and import. Note: Apple Health is not available on Android devices.

What if my activity doesn't cover any distance?

That's okay! And they can still count toward your goal. Strength training, yoga, team sports, hockey, pilates, boxing, gardening, building a snowman and snowball fights start with how long you were active. You can use the distance estimator to figure out your estimated distance to add to your tally.

Estimating distance

How do I turn a workout into distance?

On the manual and indoor forms, tap Estimate distance (the ruler icon), then:

  • Pick an intensity โ€” Leisurely, Moderate or Vigorous on a bike, say, or Sniff & stroll versus Brisk walk on a dog walk.
  • Tell us how long you were moving.

We'll fill in a distance, tag it Calculated, and set a matching effort level. You can always customize the value before saving.

What about step counts?

Daily Steps works differently: enter your step count, pick a pace, and we'll convert it to distance for you.

The activity form

Every tracker finishes on the same screen.

  • Activity Type โ€” what you did. Sets the icon your teammates see.
  • Distance โ€” with a Mi / Km toggle, so you can switch units on any single activity.
  • Time โ€” filled in for you by the outdoor and indoor trackers.
  • Activity Name โ€” there's a default, but have fun with it.
  • Date โ€” when it happened.
  • Add Selfie โ€” take or choose a photo.
  • Pets โ€” check off whoever came along. Appears once you've added a pet.
  • Effort โ€” a slider from Very Light to Max Effort. Tap Details to see what each level means. This one is always private โ€” nobody else ever sees it.
  • Notes โ€” how it went.
  • Share notes with teams โ€” off unless you turn it on. Switch it on and your notes show up in team feeds, still following your privacy settings.

What happens after I save?

You might see a summary, a Streak increased! message, a badge you've just earned, or a celebration if you hit your goal.

Fixing a mistake

I got something wrong. Can I change it?

Of course. Find the activity under Recent Activity on the Record tab, in your Activity list on your profile, or in a team feed. Tap the โ‹ฎ menu and choose Edit or Delete.

You can change the type, distance, time, name, date, selfie, pets, effort and notes. Deleting something recalculates your distance, streak and badge progress automatically.
