Fitness Challenges Where Any Activity Counts

The short answer: look for a distance challenge that converts every kind of movement into progress, not just running. Run Across America counts more than 50 activity types toward one season goal, from walking and cycling to yoga, pickleball, gardening and shoveling snow. The current season is Holiday Hustle 2026, November 1 through December 31, 2026.

Why multi-activity challenges keep people going

  • Bad weather doesn't stop you. Swap the outdoor walk for the treadmill, a stationary bike or a yoga class.
  • Injuries and off days don't end your season. A sore knee can still swim or stretch.
  • Teams are fairer. A runner, a cyclist and someone who loves Pilates can all contribute to the same goal.

What counts in Run Across America

Here's a sample of the activity types in the app:

  • On foot: walk, run, run/walk, hike, dog walk, stroller walk, walk with kids, daily steps
  • Wheels and water: bicycle, stationary bike, wheelchair, handcycle, rollerblade, swim, row, kayak, paddleboard
  • Studio and gym: yoga, Pilates, strength training, stretching, tai chi, dancing, boxing, elliptical, stair stepper

  • Winter and home: ski, snowshoe, ice skate, snow shovel, gardening, yard work, and even volunteering

How a season works

  1. Pick a goal of 50, 100, 250 or 500 km.
  2. Move however you like and log it in the app, or import it from Apple Health or Strava.
  3. Track your progress with badges, streaks, team totals and themed bonus challenges.
  4. Get your reward in the mail: your pick of a steel medal, a super-soft tee or a seasonal item.

Registration is $55, and you can add a gift to Feeding America that we match dollar for dollar, up to $50.
